As the nation approached the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Judi Vaillancourt was asked by several museums — Gettysburg, PA, the Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C., and The Lincoln Museum in Illinois — to design commemorative figures. After a year of development and research, Judi created this Civil War Santa based on the drawings of 1860’s artist Thomas Nast. Designed in her 19th-century Massachusetts farmhouse, Judi's whimsical figurine is handcrafted from chalkware that’s cast in an antique German confectioner’s mold. Artisans handpaint and decorate every charming detail. Each piece is hand signed, dated and numbered by the artist.
