Fine Green Nephrite Jade & Antique Ojime Rope Necklace
One-of-a-kind shibuichi (a rare bronze alloy of silver and copper) antique ojime features two inlaid butterflies, one gold and one silver, symbolizing transformation; the reverse is engraved with bush clover. Ojime dates back to 19th century Japan. In order to carry their personal effects, men would attach a bag or box from a cord on their kimono sash, using an ojime to secure the contents inside. Believed to possess magical properties and often worn as talismans, they were enviable status symbols, giving prestige to those who wore them. Green nephrite jade, 10mm. Antique Japanese ojime. 38"L continuous.
