Peter Campbell, 'Creek In January'
Upon completing his studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, Peter Campbell began his artistic career as a photographer, and one can easily see how that has informed his views of nature. After moving to the West, he has been painting exclusively. There’s abstraction, impressionism and tonalism in his work; the canvases he creates from his studio in Durango, Colorado, reveal his passion for painting and for winter. When asked about Creek in January, Peter offered: “I wanted the viewer to be led into the background of the painting where you could get a sense of a larger valley, but be counterbalanced with the foreground, with the remaining leaves literally hanging like notes on a musical score in the limbs.” Oil on Canvas. 33" x 44" (framed: 34" x 45"). Signed by the artist. 2018.
