Twelve strands of luminous hand-strung keshi South Sea pearls are twisted to create this classic necklace, which is finished with a beautiful antique Japanese takazogan (high relief) metalwork clasp featuring a peony blossom, the symbol of prosperity, love and honor. This rich embellishment is a menuki — a functional work of art commonly wrapped within the handle braids of a sword to help secure the grip of the samurai when engaged in battle.
