Just as his father had always carved wooden figures for him when he was a child, Danish designer Kay Bojesen started developing his wooden toys in 1919 for his newborn son, Otto. Three years later, he entered his first designs into a design competition. In 1951, Bojesen wanted to design a coat rack for a children's furniture exhibition — the idea behind the monkey was that the long arms would bring the coat hook down to child’s height, and the short legs would make room for a hat and scarf. Today, this monkey is merely an enchanting animal that will spark the imagination of the young — and the young at heart. It consists of 31 individual parts, made from Limba, an African hardwood, and sustainable teak wood. Thanks to the natural grain and color of the wood, each one of the wooden animals is unique.
